Needing oxygen isn’t like it used to be. You no longer need to be bed bound but instead can be living life to the fullest with the advancement of portable oxygen concentrators!
But like with anything you need to properly take care of your unit so it works safely, properly and efficiently.
Here are a few things you don’t want to do:
Your concentrator is not a table and “stuff” shouldn’t be stored on top of it. That’s because storing things on top can lead to spills that could damage the unit or even cause overheating.
No one should ever be smoking around someone using oxygen. This is common sense to most of us but due to the high concentration of pure oxygen the unit produces there is a very big risk that the simplest of flames can cause a major fire. In addition, if the unit should be sent back to the manufacturer for repairs and there are traces of cigarette smoke in it, the warranty could be become voided.
Storing your concentrator is also important. You never want to store it where it could be exposed to natural elements such as sunlight heat, rainwater or even snow. Instead, when not in use your concentrator should be stored in a closet where the user has easy access. You will also want to make sure you clean your unit on a regular basis so there is no dust build up. Dust build up can cause the filtration system to clog!
Portable oxygen concentrators can be lifesavers. They need to though be taken proper care of to actually be that lifesaver!
